Originally from Troy, Michigan, I am a rising third year in an undergraduate Dual Degree program between the Paris Institute of Political Studies and the University of British Columbia. For two years, I attended the Le Havre campus of the Paris Institute of Political Studies, where I double majored in economics and political science, with a focus Euro-Asian relations and will receive a Bachelors of Arts. In the fall, I will be going to the University of British Columbia for the next two years of undergraduate study, and will be in the Sauder School of Business, receiving a Bachelors of Commerce with a Marketing specialization.

Meet the Team: Jeremy Seitz-Brown

I am a rising junior majoring in Political Science and Spanish at Swarthmore College, and have been interested in electoral reforms for years. So naturally, when I saw FairVote listed as an option for Swarthmore’s one-week, winter break externship program, I quickly made it my first choice. After a great externship with FairVote, I am thrilled to be here for a full summer as a research intern.

Meet the Team: Maddie Kane

Growing up in the DC area I have been surrounded by politics for my entire life. Whether it was family, friends or teachers, everyone seemed to have an opinion--democrat, republican or independent--and everyone always seemed to disagree. Despite this initial disagreement, what everyone seems to agree on is that the electoral system is, in most ways, breaking down. This 2016 election season shows, more than ever, that something is deeply wrong with American politics. It goes beyond the candidates and parties involved. Something needs to be changed with the way that we are voting in order to reflect our population. This idea, that our voting system should be a reflection of the voters, seems very simple to me yet somehow has been difficult to adopt in practice.

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at Indiana University. Most sociologists become faculty at colleges and universities, where they teach and conduct fascinating and useful research. However, I knew even before applying to graduate school that I wanted to conduct rigorous research outside of academia, in an applied, political setting.

Meet Austin Plier

I joined FairVote in the summer of 2014, after graduating from St. Norbert College, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Upon graduating, I knew I wanted to learn more about American democracy and solutions that might fix a political system that was clearly breaking down. It seemed to me that we could do better--and had to do better--in order to restore faith and enthusiasm to elections at every level of government.

Meet Viviana Gonzalez

As an undergrad at NYU, the pressure to secure an internship is intense. Very intense. As a politics pre-law major, I was warned that a lot of the internships available to me would involve quite a bit of coffee-fetching, with only the occasional opportunity to do some serious work. Though I know those internships have a lot of value, I wanted a different type of experience.
