As we continue to track the 2018 electoral landscape, FairVote is reporting announcements from members of Congress who will not seek re-election, and analyzing how the new open seat impacts our projections for the upcoming elections to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Earlier this week, Rep. Tom Rooney (R-FL-17) announced his retirement. Rooney, first elected in 2008, vacates a safe seat with a Republican partisanship of 64.6%. FairVote still projects a Republican victory in 2018 at our highest degree of confidence.
We still make high confidence projections in 378 races, 207 for Republicans and 171 for Democrats.
