Nancy Lavin

If talking politics was an Olympic sport, Nancy Lavin would take the gold — or so she likes to think. Her passion for politics is equaled only by a love for writing. Luckily, as FairVote’s staff writer, she doesn’t have to choose. Whether through blog posts, op-eds or tweets, she loves the challenge of wielding her words to advocate for election reform.

Lavin comes to FairVote with five years of journalism experience at daily newspapers, first in her native Rhode Island and then in Frederick, Maryland. Her favorite pieces to report include a comprehensive examination of representative democracy in Frederick and a feature on the #MeToo movement. While she can no longer call herself a member of the media, she remains an avid news follower and defender of the “Fourth Estate.” In her free time, Lavin can be found reading, drinking wine or scouting out cute dogs — ideally a combination of the three.

Lavin graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a double minor in political science and Spanish.
