FairVote’s Response to News of Rep. Alcee Hastings’ Death
April 6, 2021 –FairVote, a nonpartisan organization that advocates for election reform, responded to news this morning that Rep. Alcee Hastings died this morning at the age of 84.
“Congressman Hastings’ core belief that every American’s vote should be counted, combined with his commitment to craft and introduce legislation that empowers American voters, made him a leader in the electoral reform movement,” shared Rob Richie, CEO and President of FairVote. “Just a few weeks ago, Rep. Hastings introduced a new bill that challenged Congress to consider a more expansive, meaningful discussion of what fair representation really means without adding more House seats and without changing winner-take-all elections. We mourn his loss.”
FairVote is a nonpartisan champion of electoral reforms that give voters greater choice, a stronger voice, and a representative democracy that works for all Americans.
