FairVote Announces Angela Kouters As New Director of Government Affairs
April 28, 2021 –FairVote, a nonpartisan organization that advocates for better elections, announced today that Angela Kouters will lead its hill and federal policy strategy as its new Director of Government Affairs. Kouters joins the team after serving as a senior advisor to Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) during her presidential campaign and serving as Chief of Staff to Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-CA-9), Rep. Glenn Nye (D-VA-2) and, most recently, Rep. Betty Sutton (D-OH-13).
“In this time of political division and unrest, FairVote has a bold vision for the United States: one in which better elections lead to more accurate representation and good governance. This vision can only be enacted with the support of lawmakers and party leaders from across the spectrum, many of whom are ready to embrace key reforms,” shared Rob Richie, CEO and President of FairVote. “Angela Kouters’ hire is a commitment to this vision and we look forward to engaging Kouters’ leadership in pursuit of FairVote’s policy goals.”
Kouters will be tasked with winning FairVote’s reform agenda nationally, including working with Congress, with political parties as they expand ranked choice voting into more presidential primaries and with the growing network of state allies winning ranked choice voting across the country. She will lead a staff of law and policy experts, political strategists, and lobbyists.
FairVote is a nonpartisan organization seeking better elections for all. We research and advance voting reforms that make democracy more functional and representative for every American.
