Don Beyer Elected to Second Term

Virginia’s polls are now closed, and Representative Don Beyer of Virginia’s Eighth District appears to have been elected to his second term, based on early returns.
Don Beyer’s first term has marked him as an innovative thinker and a supporter of important election changes. He hosted a congressional briefing at which FairVote presented its model Fair Representation Act for Congress:

He recently reiterated his support for thinking beyond single-winner districts, saying he would like “to talk to 200 people about this in the next two years.” He has also worked for a national standard allowing 16- and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote, an idea that FairVote has long championed. We look forward to what Rep. Beyer will bring to Congress in his second term.
