Build Your Own Ranked Choice Poll

Have you ever wanted any easy way to showcase the value of ranked choice voting? While many live in cities across the country that are using ranked choice voting, others still haven't had a chance to see how it works, or better yet, try it for themselves.

FairVote partnered with Civinomics, a California-based civic technology firm, to develop a digital platform that allows anyone to create their own ranked choice voting poll or upload and easily display the results of a previous ranked choice voting election. Our platform lets users see every step of how ranked choice voting works, download the data from their poll, and restrict respondents by their IP addresses. You can create a poll to show how ranked choice voting would improve a primary election in your state, or you can create one to decide which book to read next and send it to your book club. Help FairVote showcase a better way to conduct elections by creating a poll of your own and sharing it with us on Facebook and Twitter, or by submitting it our contact form.

  5. Choose Poll Features. After adding the options to your poll, you may include additional specifics and features.  You get to decide how long to keep the poll open, and can even target your poll on the Civinomics platform to a particular region. If you would like to use RCV for an internal organizational poll, you can do so, and choose not to feature it on Civinomics' public feed, or restrict the anonymous responses by IP Address. Civinomics_How_To_Threshold__2_(1).png
  6. Display Results. After saving your poll, you must wait for enough votes to be cast before you will be able to see the results based on the threshold you set. You may edit the poll at any time, including modifying the end date or changing it from "Open," meaning in process, to "Closed," meaning it will not accept any additional votes.How_To_Edit_Poll__3.png

Upload Your Own Ranked Choice Voting Data

Ranked choice voting doesn't just work great for cities and localities across the country, it can also be used in any different type of election to give voters more choices and make outcomes fair. For example, ranked choice voting is recommended for businesses, institutions and organizations hosting internal elections by Robert's Rules of Order. Universities and colleges across the country also use ranked choice voting to elect student positions. FairVote's App allows all these entities and anyone using ranked choice voting in their elections to easily visualize the results of these races even if they are hosted off of the Civinomics platform.
Our App allows users to upload pre-existing data from any previous ranked choice contest to visually represent each round of voting. While this functionality is still in Beta phase, it can provide a valuable tool for anyone looking to capture the results of a ranked choice election hosted off of our Civinomics platform. Uploading your ranked choice data with our tool allows views to click through individual rounds of voting and easily access aggregate data for rounds in the chart at the bottom.
