Ranked choice voting (RCV) improves representation, increases participation, and improves our democracy. Some may have you believe that RCV is a tool for helping one party over another; however, recent legislation and elections prove that ranked choice voting is a cross-partisan reform with support on both sides of the aisle.

This Sunday, January 23rd, is RCV Day (1/23)! In states all over the country, people will be mobilizing to spread the word about ranked choice voting. FairVote and Rank The Vote - a national grassroots organizing group - are collaborating to coordinate these efforts nationwide. As ranked choice voting’s biggest year yet comes to an end, it’s a great time to take a closer look at RCV and FairVote’s recent media coverage. Is this reform breaking through in the media, as it is at the ballot box?

Midway into the 2021-22 redistricting cycle, 25 states have completed their redistricting for U.S. House seats. Another 17 have proposals on the table. And every day, more state legislative maps are being locked into place for the next decade. 

At a time when our own democratic system is struggling, the U.S. was a glaring outlier among the summit invitees in at least one way: the way we choose our lawmakers.

The House of Representatives passed the Voter Choice Act, as an amendment to the Protecting Our Democracy Act. This is a significant milestone for RCV

Yesterday, the Clark County Charter Review Commission voted 11-4 to put ranked-choice voting (RCV) on the 2022 ballot. This makes Clark County the second county in Washington to put RCV on the ballot this year, joining San Juan County. Voters in both counties will have a chance to adopt this better voting method.
