Kicking off this new year, legislators in over 20 states proposed new legislation to advance ranked choice voting.

On Tuesday February 8th, here in FairVote’s home state of Maryland, the Ways and Means Committee held a hearing for a ranked choice voting (RCV) bill. FairVote submitted testimony in support of the legislation in Maryland and continues to press state governments to ensure voters have more voice and more choice.

It’s election season again! No, not the midterms, but the Academy Awards, where ranked choice voting (RCV) proves that it works for more than just political elections.

On January 23, 2022, Americans in every region of the country celebrated Ranked Choice Voting Day (Get it? It’s 1/23). They mobilized to increase awareness of ranked choice voting (RCV), a simple yet impactful upgrade to our elections that allows voters to pick their true favorite candidates rather than vote ‘strategically,’ which incentivizes candidates to reach out to more people on the campaign trail.

In 2021, ranked choice voting (RCV) had its biggest year ever: Used in a record 33 cities, including 23 municipalities for the first time.

With reforms to the Electoral Count Act currently under debate, FairVote's Senior Legal Fellow, Mike Parsons, took a look at how the certification and counting process might be shored up to protect the role of the people in choosing the president.

Ranked choice voting (RCV) improves representation, increases participation, and improves our democracy. Some may have you believe that RCV is a tool for helping one party over another; however, recent legislation and elections prove that ranked choice voting is a cross-partisan reform with support on both sides of the aisle.

This Sunday, January 23rd, is RCV Day (1/23)! In states all over the country, people will be mobilizing to spread the word about ranked choice voting. FairVote and Rank The Vote - a national grassroots organizing group - are collaborating to coordinate these efforts nationwide.
