Food for thought....
- There is no RIGHT TO VOTE in the U.S. Constitution
- PARTISANS HAVE THE POWER to manipulate voting rules, and elections are marred by bad ballots designs and faulty voting equipment
- Nearly a third of eligible voters ARE NOT REGISTERED TO VOTE, and millions who are registered do not bother to vote
- Campaigns are NEGATIVE AND DIVISIVE, their purpose is to attack and divide, and voters have difficulty making informed choices
- Most high offices don't require a majority of votes to win, causing a SPOILER PROBLEM for third parties and independents, and disrupting majority rule
- When necessary, expensive runoffs and special elections are held and TURNOUT IS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS
- Presidential primaries and the Electoral College give exaggerated influence to a tiny handful of states, making most Americans COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT in electing the president
- Because of winner-take-all rules, most elections for Congress and state legislatures are not competitive, and too many Americans are NOT REPRESENTED
Nearly all these problems could be solved by simple statutes passed by Congress or states. FairVote and other reform allies are trying to do just that.
So we want to know what YOU would do to help us realize the vision of our motto, the Way Democracy Will Be.
