FairVote MN and Better Ballot Campaign 10-Year Gala

FairVote Minnesota, a cousin of FairVote, and the Better Ballot Campaign celebrate their 10th anniversary on May 8. The event includes a cash bar, dinner, reception and regular program. Tickets are $60.

NC State: 2007 Abraham Holtzman lecture

North Carolina State University's political science department has invited FairVote Director Rob Richie to give its annual Abraham Holtzman lecture on April 16. He'll talk about voting rights, reform in general, the National Popular Vote campaign and instant runoff voting. Richie also will attend classes and meet with members of the NC General Assembly.

The D.C. Fair and Equal House Voting Rights Act (H.R. 328 2007) would grant the residents of our nation’s capital an historic voting member in the United States House of Representatives. While a critical step toward giving a voice to District of Columbia residents H.R. 328, however, does not address the problem of the District’s lack of representation in the U.S. Senate. Beyond addressing a serious injustice to Washingtonians, U.S. Senate representation for the District would benefit urban residents around the nation. This is because (1) no U.S. Senator currently represents a majority urban state, as defined as people living in major cities, (2) there is a paucity of past experience with urban governance in the present U.S. Senate and (3) two U.S. Senators can be enough to change a legislative outcome.

FairVote's Richie spoke before Secretaries of State

FairVote Director Rob Richie addressed the National Association of Secretaries of State at its annual winter meeting on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Capitol Hill. Richie joined a panel of election reform advocates assessing the 2006 elections and looking ahead to 2008. The panel took place from 3pm — 4pm. For more information: www.nass.org
