Texas Voter ID Bill is Dead...for now

by Adam Fogel // Published May 18, 2007
The Texas Senate rejected a bill that easily passed in the House that would require voters to show photo identification in addition to their current voter registration card. Proponents of the bill argued that the additional requirement will "increase voting integrity," although there have been no reports of voter impersonation in Texas.

Texas has some of the lowest voter turnout in the country--consistently one of the bottom-five states. The Texas Legislature ought to spend more time thinking about how to increase participation instead of creating more bureaucratic rules that limit turnout.
