    Announcing our summer panel series in collaboration with NYUDialogues entitled Democracy Next: Voices, Votes & Vision. With our summer panel series we will feature numerous thought leaders, legislators and advocates exploring structural solutions to political gridlock and voting rights challenges. The summer series launches June 27th in Washington DC with the opening panel discussion: Beyond Gerrymandering & Polarization. 

  • FairVote and NYU-DC Launch Democracy Next Series on June 27

    The launch of the FairVote-NYUDialogues series on Democracy Next: Voices, Votes and Vision  takes place on June 27th, 2013, with a forum featuring three current and former members of Congress. The topic of the forum is Beyond Polarization and Gerrymandering, with a focus on fair representation voting alternatives to winner-take-all elections. Following the forum, FairVote will celebrate 21 years of research and analysis in the effort to reform our electoral system to respect every vote and every voice. Subsequent summer forums will address the right to vote, presidential elections and women's representation.


  • Constitutional Right to Vote Introduced in Congress and Backed in Maryland City

    U.S. Reps. Mark Pocan (D-WI) and Keith Ellison (D-MN)  announced on May 13th that they will introduce legislation this week to explicitly guarantee the right to vote in the Constitution, while on a local level the city council of Takoma Park, Maryland, unanimously adopted a resolution in support of a right to vote in the Constitution and the creation of a task force to suggest ways to boost voter participation. Takoma Park also will become the first city in the United States to lower the voting age to 16.

     

  • FairVote Releases Projections for the 2014 Congressional Elections

    As part of its biennial Monopoly Politics series on the overriding dominance of partisanship in controlling the outcomes of American congressional elections, FairVote today released its initial projections for its Monopoly Politics 2014 report. The report projects outcomes in 374 of 435 U.S. House elections in 2014 based on current incumbents seeking re-election. Of those 374 races, FairVote projects 211 to be won by Republicans and 163 to be won by Democrats.

  • Monopoly Politics 2012

    FairVote has issued its new Monopoly Politics 2012 report on U.S. House elections. The report demonstrates the growing partisan rigidity of voters in U.S. House elections with a detailed state-by-state, district-by-district review of this year's congressional races and the 2010 elections. It includes information on the presidential election results in every 2012 district, how each district's partisanship has changed since 2010 and the likely outcome of the Congressional elections next month.
