New video: 50th anniversary single winner congressional districts

Posted by Rich Robinson on December 14, 2017

Today is an important election anniversary in the United States. The system every state uses to select candidates to the House of Representatives - one person elected per district - was mandated by Congress 50 years ago today, Dec. 14, 1967. That system is directly linked to many of the most serious problems in American democracy today.

In our latest video Drew Penrose, FairVote’s legal and policy director, describes this history, and explains how this system makes it possible for FairVote to project the partisan results of congressional elections years before anyone casts a single vote.
