Chair of FairVote’s board of directors for a decade, John Anderson represented Rockford (IL) in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1961 to 1981, including ten years as Republican Conference chair. He was an independent candidate for president in 1980 and currently teaches law at Nova Southeastern.
Ray Martinez
Director of government relations for Rice University, Ray Martinez is chair of FairVote’s Youth Voter Registration and Education project. He is a former Vice Chair of the
Election Assistance Commission and advisor to the Pew Charitable Trusts.
Hendrik Hertzberg
A senior editor with the New Yorker and author of Politics: Observations and Arguments, Hendrik Hertzberg has served on the board of FairVote since 1995. He was editor of the New Republic and chief speechwriter for President Jimmy Carter.
Malia Lazu
A FairVote board member, Malia Lazu is director of the Gathering Project, former director of the Racial Justice Campaign Fund and founding director of Boston Vote. She finished second in Showtime’s American Candidate reality television series.

Founding president and long-time board member of FairVote, Matthew Cossolotto os president of Ovations International. He is author of such books as The Almanac of European Politics, HabitForce! and All the World's a Podium.
Rev. Edward Hailes, Jr.
An experienced civil rights attorney, ordained Baptist minister and Vice Chair of
FairVote's board of directors, Hailes is senior attorney with the Advancement Project and former general counsel for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
Sen. Jamin Raskin
State senator Jamin Raskin took the lead in making Maryland the first state to enter the National Popular Vote plan. A former FairVote board member, Raskin is a professor at the Washington College of Law and author of Overruling Democracy.
