Governing magazine has a really interesting piece on why proportional voting is making a comeback in so many cities and states as citizens look for thoughtful ways to reform democracy. As the story notes, many experts believe proportional voting -- which ties seats in a legislative body to the number of votes the party receives -- would ensure that all votes matter and make our elections more fair and less negative. One of the experts quoted in the piece is FairVote executive director Rob Richie. “We need to make general elections matter again,” Richie says. “In this climate, that’s not going to happen without changing elections.”
