Democrats to have final meeting on primary changes

WASHINGTON, DC – On Saturday, a Democratic commission will decide whether to challenge the dominant role that Iowa and New Hampshire play in determining the party's presidential nominee. Because the move has engendered anger and division amongst the Democrats, FairVote believes there is room for mention of alternative plans.

The “American Plan,” based on the “Delaware Plan” nearly adopted by the GOP in 2000, incorporates increasing state size with random order, giving all states a fair shot at meaningful participation, while preserving the advantages of beginning with small states like New Hampshire.

The American Plan was endorsed by the Young Democrats of America, as well as FairVote – The Center for Voting and Democracy.
