Ben Ratner

Ben Ratner is an electoral systems and reform research intern with FairVote. He is a rising senior at Bowdoin College, where he studies government and history. Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Ben plays the violin, has become obsessed with funk music and is currently on a mission to refine his amateur cooking skills. He has spent previous summers working on a U.S. Senate campaign in Ohio, for his state representative in Michigan, and with the literary journal Midwestern Gothic. He is excited to be joining the FairVote team and their efforts to reform the American political system.

In early June, more than 93,000 people cast their ballots in the GOP primary for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District. For voters in 40 of the 50 states, that’s the end of the line: the candidate with the most votes advances to the general election, even if opposed by most of the voters.
