FairVote released its third in a series of reports that seeks to shed light on the practices of county election officials responsible for running efficient elections this November. The report, “Uniformity in Election Administration: A Survey of Swing State County Clerks–Colorado Edition,” shows that the state may fall short in allocating a sufficient number of machines and poll booths, but their use of early voting may avert any potential Election Day disaster. With turnout in swing states expected to rise to unprecedented levels, FairVote is making every effort to ensure voters don’t run into roadblocks this Election Day. In the report, we offer a series of conclusions and recommendations about what states can do to have a transparent process and prepare for what could be the highest voter turnout in modern presidential election history. Reports on Missouri and New Mexico election preparedness were released earlier this fall. A national report will be released later this month.[Colorado Report]

Cincinnati, Ohio will vote in November on bringing back the ranked choice
voting form of proportional representation for city council elections.
The city currently uses a winner-take-all system that too often shuts out
new voices from council, leading to a citizen's initiative this summer
that turned in more than 15,000 signatures. Better Ballot Cincinnati has
impressive support, including some of the city's most respected political
leaders, Common Cause, ACORN and other civic groups from across the
spectrum. On September 20th, the measure picked up the editorial support
of the Cincinnati Business Courier.
